Karen Jacobson, At large

Electricity Advisor, American Enerpower

I grew up in Pennsylvania but have lived in Houston since I graduated from college and moved here. My 2 children are native Houstonians, both also living in Houston. My son Bryce also attended Penn State University and lives here with his wife Christine. My daughter, Justine, graduated from University of Houston. I enjoy gardening, walking, and doing DIY home projects.

I worked in the oil and gas industry for 38 years. I started at Amoco Production Company in 1978 in Houston after graduating with a BS in Geosciences from Penn State University. I held various leadership positions for the next 19 years. I finished my career in oil and gas in the investment banking energy side, working at Raymond James in their Acquisitions and Divestment Group. Currently, I am working as an Electricity Advisor for residential and commercial clients in areas where electricity is deregulated throughout Texas and the U.S.

WHY KAREN SERVES:

I have a personal connection with the Outreach Center. I am interested in serving on the board because I have seen firsthand the value that the Center provides for the community and especially for the various groups that meet there. The Outreach Center serves a need that is not met in other places.

I am intrigued with the description in the Vision Statement for OCWH which included – an incubator for non-profit growth and expansion. This concept seems unique and I think I could add some degree of value in assisting the Board with these start-ups.
