William G. Dickon, At Large

Dikson INternational Geosciences

Bill’s professional career in the international oil and gas industry brought him to Houston. When his employer, Union Texas Petroleum, was sold in 1997, Bill founded a consultancy, Dickson International Geosciences (DIGs). DIGs and associates provide global expertise to the upstream petroleum industry. A geoscientist, he is a long-term member of AAPG (the American Association of Petroleum Geologists), currently on the board of their Datapages subsidiary. He is also a member of the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) and EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers). He continues to assist local societies, particularly technical committees for Latin America and Africa-related conferences.

Bill and his family have been members of St Thomas Presbyterian church since 1992. St Thomas, which owns the land on which we are located, founded what is now OCWH as a 501(c)(3) organization to expand its community outreach. Following a term on the St Thomas session, Bill’s retiring session class was nominated to the OCWH board to help strengthen the center and its mission. Bill continues as an unofficial liaison between St Thomas members and the OCWH board.

WHY BILL SERVES:

Bill has served on the board since 2002 when the organization was known as the West Houston Community Center. He has held positions on the Executive Committee since 2004; has chaired Leadercast and Texas Hold Em (Games Night) fund-raiser committees, and provides ad hoc tech consultancy to the organization.

Bill's engagement with the Houston community includes Stephen Ministry, a lay counseling ministry since 1998. His family has experienced struggles with mental health and related substance abuse issues which spurred his leadership in programs of an OCWH tenant, PDAP. He is proud that his family regularly support community volunteerism and fund both community outreach and mental health programs. He shares passions and interests with them such as periodic workdays for Rebuilding Together Houston. He and his wife Sharon see great promise of continuity through their two grandchildren who were their school grade leaders for the 2022 Heart Foundation drive. Understanding that we are all in this together has given Bill and his family the drive to support OCWH and our shared communities.
